HOW DO PL PROJECTS DEAL WITH STRESS IN THE WORKPLACE?

Written by Mental Health Champion, Jess Bailey.

Stress is often talked about as a negative reaction to how people feel. At PLP, however, we think that it is important to remember that stress can be motivating, it only starts to be a problem when you lose control.

As part of our mission, we aim to nurture staff and do this in a number of ways.

  • We encourage office days for staff to break the cycle of working from home.
    • This encourages people to get moving, be in a different environment and talk face-to-face with colleagues. Helping improve their mental state and mood.
  • Our training events occur the last Friday of every month.
    • This brings everyone in the business together to aid professional development in a fun and relaxed environment.
  • We run a house point system which groups together all employees into teams and run different challenges throughout the year.
    • This offers continual professional document (CPD) opportunities and celebrate awards to encourage points. This helps create relationships between colleagues in a fun way.
  • We have 1 to 1 sessions between staff and senior managers.
    • These are a great way to find support and help staff release any stress that is impacting job performance, whether it be work load or colleague/client relationships.
  • We supporting the community by attending monthly volunteer mornings at The Outback Community Garden and Kitchen.
    • Staff can attend to get some fresh air, movement and a break from their work desk. This has been a great way to destress and also create strong employee relationships.
  • Finally, our Mental Health Champion team are constantly researching new ways to improve wellbeing and mental health support within PLP.
