The Enterprise category is for projects that best demonstrate ability to bring value and benefit to society. At PL Projects, we used this category to showcase the 2024 organisational restructure that has taken place with an emphasis on value creation and retention for our staff and our clients. As a Small Medium Enterprise (SME) business in the UK, we are part of 61% of total employment, and 52% of total turnover (Federation of Small Businesses, 2021). Resilience and adaptability are fundamental characteristics that will lead to our continued success as a business, and this restructure was governed by our people values (getting everyone involved) with a focus on our growing expertise in the project management, project controls and PMO sectors.
The restructure created Functional Groups, responsible by Functional Leads, that allow specialist skill areas to be developed in greater detail. The first four Functional Groups that have been launched are project management and project controls, planning, PMO and risk. Every member of staff was given an opportunity to hear about the groups from the Functional Leads, and select the most relevant group for them, mindful of their own career journeys. They then become part of a community that contributes to evolving resources which are stored within the PLP Knowledge Hub.
This Knowledge Hub is currently being used as a self-serve tool for all our staff, but we are able to also offer elements of this to our clients and the wider PM community. A recent example of this was supporting a client to better understand how to create and update her project schedule using MS Project. It is important that we recognise these groups as growing with us. We have no ‘completion date’ for them, we do however expect the use and content of them to get better over time.
We were thrilled to be Highly Commended in this category.
