SPS IT DELIVERY PROGRAMME (EU EXIT)

THE CHALLENGE

This government department was tasked with implementing border controls in preparation for the exit of the UK from the European Union. From this stemmed the need for the development and transition of IT systems to help the UK manage and track the imports and exports of goods to and from the EU aiding sanitary and phytosanitary security nationwide, as access to the EU trade control system would no longer be available. Additionally, the development of these IT systems would need to constantly adapt to new policies that may be introduced as part of the governments continued negotiations with the European Commission.

THE SOLUTION

Our PMO staff sat within the IT Delivery programme, to provide project support, Project planning, tracking and reporting across the many iterations of the programme/project from development of the system to roll out and ultimately to the transition of the service to BAU. This was done through extensive planning and tracking of milestones and dependencies on project online and power BI. It was important that our staff understood the impact of prompt delivery and impact analysis of policy changes and continuous system improvements.

THE OUTCOME
  • The roll out of the IT systems prompted a need to understand trends of usage of the system therefore our PMO team helped kick start the development of a MI report that that identifies usage data from the legacy systems and allowed the project team to use statistical data and compare and analyse the trends of usage to aid user engagement and transition from the legacy system to the brand new systems that were built, significant improving project/programme maturity.
  • The PMO team were constantly on top of milestones and plans, using project online to develop milestones and create weekly reports to take up to seniors. This allowed the systems to be rolled out successfully e.g., the IPAFFS and EHCO system.
